Estos últimos, la mayoría de los cuales hacían las veces de capitales regionales -wamanis-, atesoraron los componentes arquitectónicos clásicos inkaicos, entre los cuales las plazas o awkaypatas se erigían como los epicentros de los trazados urbanos.ĭedicaremos este trabajo a plantear las relaciones espaciales entre las plazas o awkaypatas Inka con el paisaje donde fueron instaladas y los restantes componentes urbanos que las acompañan. En base a esa política fueron construidas instalaciones como pukaras, enclaves agrícolas y mineros, tambos, caminos, adoratorios en las altas cumbres y centros administrativos–ceremoniales. Resumen: En su expansión por el mundo andino sudamericano el estado Inka o Tawantinsuyu movilizó una política de urbanismo dirigido que implantó desde el sur de la actual Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, sección occidental de Bolivia hasta los andes del noroeste de Argentina y región septentrional de Chile. Given the diversity of "late" archaeological remains in the region, which also includes sites with chulpas and hilltop fortresses, and the balkanized nature of ethnicity in this area of the Andes during colonial times, the identification of any subset of prehistoric sites as belonging to a historic group would seem to confuse rather than clarify the culture history of the Chaupihuaranga Basin at this point in time. The Inca also had a significant presence in the zone in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries at the site of Huarautambo, a small administrative center with fine Inca masonry, and an important segment of the Qhapaq Ñan between Pumpu and Huanucopampa that cuts across the Chaupihuaranga Basin (Arellano and Matos 2007 Pacheco 1978) (see Figure 2).
Bueno's identification of Astobamba and Gorish as "Yarush" settlements is an attribution of prehistoric archaeological sites to the historically documented Yaro ethnic group that inhabited the Chaupihuaranga Basin in colonial times according censuses in sixteenth and seventeenth centuries (Miranda 1975(Miranda [1583Vázquez 1948Vázquez [1628: 648).
